Learning songs, solos from songs, finding licks and patterns that I like, repeat, repeat, repeat... and that's it ! This is basically 2 or 3 patterns that I play with different note fast in this video :)

Very impressive BUT all of the truly iconic guitar solos become in effect a secondary vocalist to the song. Think about it… Page and Plant, Roth and Van Halen, Hagar and Van Halen, Lifeson and Lee, Campbell and Coverdale, SRV and SRV etc. were paired perfectly to each other in their songs. Therein lies the challenge with shredding. If it’s not done tastefully and in moderation, the solo often no longer sounds like a vocalist but rather an auctioneer and an auction. Lol. Listening to an auctioneer is cool but even people with fine musical ears lose interest quickly and/or can’t understand what they’re saying. This is why the best guitar players on the planet, classical guitarists, don’t shred even though they easily can. On a related note, EVH saw himself as a rhythm guitar player first and soloist second. I could be wrong but I don’t think he identified as a shredder but man could he shred… the difference is that his playing wasn’t a non-stop machine gun of notes but rather a distinct, melodic and harmonic vocalist singing us, along side with VH’s main vocalist, a story. I look forward to hearing your melodic stories in the future. :-)

@RealEstateSafelyNavigated I agree with that :) This short clip is from a longer video where I don't play as fast on other parts, but fort "shorts", I took a part that was a bit flashy because it's hard to tell a story in under 60 seconds. Also I have many other genres that I try to improvise on. My current favorite is Neo-Soul, even without vocals, you can tell a pretty story.

Thank you ! The tone was made with GENOME (a VST from Two Notes audio), basic licence. Chain is : Greenie Meanie (Ibanez Tube Screamer emulation), with high tone, very low gain. CODEX + brit800 (Marshall JCM 800 Zakk Wylde emulation), low gain, low bass, high mids Marshall 4x12 Slash Signature Open Back Cab (with SM57 + another mic, the default settings) A slight stereo delay And that's it, a lot of the tone is also coming from the Les Paul humbuckers, if I remember right, my tone knobs were also slightly down, like around 6 instead of 10 (which can give this "fuzzy" tone here and there). During the intro my volume knob is also lowered, I turn it up at 1:22 I hope this helps !

@@MattyPS Je crois que c'est assez commun malheureusement, j'en ai parlé avec d'autres personnes, et on se met une pression de ouf pour faire un truc "pro" qui sonne super bien et qui est beau, et du coup on ne produit plus rien ou on jette 90% de nos productions à la poubelle. Ce qui est intéressant à voir, c'est que chaque fois que je fais une "erreur" dans la vidéo, les notes qui suivent sont souvent fausses ou pas dans le rythme, ça me déconcentre complètement de me rendre compte que je fais une erreur ! Hier je regardais une vidéo de Jack Gardiner, et il faisait un exemple où il jouait volontairement tout "faux" en dehors de la gamme, mais tout avec un rythme impeccable, et ça sonnait "fusion/jazz" plutôt que "mec qui fait n'importe quoi", et je trouve que c'est intéressant d'avoir ça en tête. En jouant avec confiance et bon timing, ça peut dépasser le fait de se "tromper" de note. Donc voilà, mon objectif pour l'année à venir va être de travailler sur ce point, mon rythme, ma précision, et développer mes skills d'impros :D Même si ça veut dire sortir des vidéos "pas parfaites -du tout-" toutes les semaines. (je pourrais ne pas sortir les vidéos et les garder sur mon ordinateur, mais documenter ce travail me semble intéressant)
